Silver Balls & Yaoi Kusama

On the way to work the other day I came across these silver mirror balls on Godliman Street just off St Pauls Churchyard that have popped up in the last 2 weeks.  I've tried to find some information on them nearby and when that proved fruitless I tried to find some info online but so far nada, they are proving to be a real little mystery.

The first thing that struck me about them was how much they reminded me of Anish Kapoor's mirror tree which was at The Royal Academy a few years back which I absolutely loved. I'd much rather have that for the Olympics than the garish red helter skelter!

And the second thing that sprung to mind was Narcissus Garden by Yaoi Kusama, it's uncanny right?!  

I don't really know much about Yayoi Kusama so I've been doing some research and I've slowly become fascinated by her. Short story is, she's a Japanese Artist who moved to America in the 1960's and was part of the Pop Art movement using polka dots and motifs in paintings, collages, installations, body painting etc. She now lives voluntarily in a mental hospital in Japan where she continues to produce work. A really interesting interview with her can be found here and thats her below.

I think part of what is so striking about her work is the echoes that we just saw on the A/W 2011 catwalks, in particular the polka dots of Marc Jacobs and the whole shebang of Louise Gary from the face painting to the painting of the runway!

Miro Vogue

I came across this Miro French Vogue cover while at work for obvious reasons I think it's from 1970 but I can't be sure. I think it's lovely and really interesting, I'm not too sure Vogue would do something like that these days...

The Ivors

Yesterday was so much fun, I meant to take some better pictures but the sun was shining and the drink was flowing and I got distracted and well forgot.  It's always nice to get dressed up and to see the boyfriend suited and booted, makes a nice change! So this is me drunk, no idea what pose I was going for, wearing maxi dress and lace blazer, god look at my roots

Today was back to reality and a lot less glamorous, wearing a realllly old fail safe primark dress (close up below)

The only downside was there was no free jellybeans this year, damn recession

Designer Doubles

Miss Kg Cairo Leopard Wedge Shoe on the left for £75 and on the right Asos Hottest Suede Peep Toe Wedge reduced to £35 in the sale!  What a bargain for an uncanny double.  Tempted to buy them but the 9cm heel sounds a bit neck breaking for me, even with the platform!

Happy days

The sun is shining, everyone is on a wedding high and everything seems right with the world. 

 

I haven't been able to get this song out of my head, so good, perfect sunny love vibes, enjoy, I'm off to listen to it on repeat in the sunshine.

River Island Wedges

There are alot of beautiful wedges in the shops right now but my favourite of the day are these from River Island at only £40! I think they are just perfect for crossing that line between spring to summer and onto autumn as they could easily be worn with bare legs or tights.  More beautiful wedges to come...
